H. H. SIR
JIVAJI RAO SCINDIA
The Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior,
‘Associate Knight’ Venerable order
of St. John of Jerusalem etc.
“The pathetic
tragedy enacted on the bloodstained field of Kerbala 13 centuries ago is still
commemorated all over the world during the days of Muharram. Firm in his
resolve to defy the tyrant, determined not to yield to forces of aggression,
strengthened by his courage of conviction and inspired by high ideas and pure
motives, Imam Husein fought valiantly a vastly superior army till he and the
last of his small band fell in the unequal combat….
This heroic episode in the History of Islam is beyond the partisanship of faiths and narrow consideration of creed, color or race and as such deserves to be enshrined in the archives of the human race as supreme example of devotion to duty regardless of the sacrifice involved.
It is with these feelings
that I offer my humble tribute to the memory of this hero….” – S. J. Scindia
