Ayatollah
Makaarim Shirazi was born in 1929 in Shiraz. He completed his primary and high school
studies in Shiraz. At the age of fourteen, he began studying theology in the Agha Baab
Khaan School, and when he was eighteen, he started his seminary studies in Qom. In Qom, he
benefited from the lectures of Ayatollah Uzma Boroujerdi and other eminent scholars.
In 1959, Makaarim Shirazi traveled to Najaf, Iraq to continue his seminary
studies. In Najaf, he attended the lectures of Ayatollah Al-Hakeem, Ayatollah Khou'i, and
Ayatollah Sayyid Abdul Haadi Shirazi. It was in the year 1960 when he returned to Iran and
began teaching Fiqh (jurisprudence) and Usool (principles).
Among the achievements of Ayatollah Makaarim Shirazi is the establishment of
the Imam Ali (AS), Imam Hasan Mujtaba (AS), and Imam Husayn (AS) Schools. He has also
written more than a hundred books, which have been translated and published in different
languages.
