Biography
Haj Sayyid Mahdi Rouhani was born on the 21st of Thil
Hijjah 1343 A.H.(1924) in the holy city of Qom. He learned the preliminary religious texts
from Shaykh Ali Debiri, Shaykh Ja`far Sabouri, and Murtazawi Qummi. And he learned most of
the Sutouh (intermediate) stage from Shaykh Abdul Razzaq Qa'ini. Having finished this
stage he migrated to Najaf Ashraf in 1942, where he benefitted from the knowledge of the
late Agha Mirza Baqir Zanjani, the late Haj Mirza Husayn Yazdi, and the late Sayyid Yahya
Yazdi. When he returned to Qom he began attending the lectures of the Kharij under
Ayatullah Sayyid Husayn Boroujerdi. However, he learned the major part of the Kharij
(advanced) stage from Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Muhaqqiq Damad. Rouhani also benefitted
very much from Hujjat Kouhkamari, Sayyid Ahmad Khansari, and the late Allama Tabataba'i.
Beside studying, he was teaching the Sutouh and Kharij stages of Khums and a single lesson
on Usool. Rouhani has made many researches on the History of Islamic sects and dogmas,
from which he has compiled a discourse entitled
Arguments with the Sunnis and the Salafiyyah. Nowadays, Rouhani is busy
conducting researches and compiling books. He is also a member of the Assembly of Teachers
and the Assembly of Experts.
